Why you keep getting cold sores every month

Ever noticed that while you get big, nasty cold sores every month, some people only get one or two tiny outbreaks a year?

What gives?

I mean, both are stuck with the herpes virus for life.

Why are the symptoms so unfairly doled out?

Because life ain’t fair.

But seriously, why is this?

Why are the Cold Sore Gods so biased against recurrent sufferer’s like you and me?

What have we done to deserve their itchy, burning wrath over and over again?

As if getting a new outbreak every month wasn’t bad enough, they’ve got to be quarter sized too?

Just keep piling it on…

Well, the other day I read a really interesting article about this very topic (and damned me if I can’t find it again…)

It’s about scientists who were looking at why the cold sore virus comes out of latency every so often.

And why it happens more often in some people than in others.

Their findings are… counter-intuitive to say the least…

As it turns out, the herpes virus just wants to be comfortable.

It wants a cozy place to live (with a fireplace and heated floors).

When it does come out of hiding to cause all kind of unspeakably nasty blisters, it’s because it feels threatened.

And when you think about it, that makes sense.

At the end of the day, a virus just wants to survive.

So whenever the herpes virus feels like its cozy little den is about to become inhospitable, it jumps ship.

Goes hunting for greener pastures.

It starts to proliferate and infect new cells in the hope of once again finding a comfy little home.

But what does that mean for you?

What in the world are you doing that’s not making the herpes virus feel at home?

In a nutshell, stress.

But not just your garden variety psychological stress.

Because a lot of stress we put on our bodies come from bad diet and lifestyle habits.

Like eating crappy foods we know we shouldn’t.

Not getting all the nutrients our immune system needs.

Or not getting enough sleep.

Or… you get the picture.

And here’s the thing about stress:

It affects all kinds of biochemical processes that can in turn cause undue damage to cells in your body.

And that includes your trigeminal nerve (i.e. the one the herpes virus hides in).

So when it feels that it’s home is threatened, it ain’t staying around to see how things are going to play out.

It’s gonna haul ass out of there like there’s a forest fire coming.

And it’ll destroy any skin cell on your face that stands in its way.

That’s why you keep getting cold sores every month.

So your best bet is to make that little bugger as comfortable as you can.

Anything to make the herpes virus not want to leave.

And you do that by eliminating the stress that’s sabotaging your health.
